Best Central Vacuum Systems For 2017

It’s the new year and, for many, it’s the perfect time for a new beginning. Maybe it’s a commitment to healthy eating or a promise to replenish your savings account – whatever the case, we use that magic first box on the calendar to mark a fresh start.

January 1st is also the time to reevaluate the norms and take an assessment of the year before. In the world of retail, that means providing a list of the hottest items set to hit the market or make waves in the coming year. So we’ve reviewed the best-of-the-best and updated our list for “Best Central Vacuum Systems” in 2017!

1) Imperium CV300 Power Unit – Best All-Around Unit

The Imperium CV300 has been crowned our all-around favorite unit for 2017 for several reasons.

  • Moderately priced– When you compare power to price, you cannot find a better deal than the CV300.
  • Right for most homes – The CV300 is powerful enough for homes as large as 7500 square feet and is a good fit for homes with hard floors and carpeting.
  • Great for allergies – The paper bag is easily changed without a mess and can be upgraded to a HEPA bag for added filtration.
  • Home square footage – Under 7,500 sq ft
  • Made In USA
  • 10 Year Warranty
  • Motor – 5.7″ Ultra, 2 Stage, Flow Thru
  • Air Watts – 740
  • Paper Bag Unit – Standard with optional HEPA

The CV300 is an all steel central vacuum power unit made of galvannealed steel. Galvannealed steel is made by combining the process of galvanization and annealing. This process produces a very fine matte finish that acts like a primer, easily adheres to paint, and is very rust proof. With a superior powder coated finish, this is a unit that will resist rust and corrosion for years and years.

2) VacuMaid SR52 – Favorite Bagged Unit

  • Large home friendly – The SR52 is powerful enough for homes as large as 10,000 sq. ft.
  • Carpeted home friendly – Because it’s packed with so much power, the SR52 is sure to provide enough suction, even for homes with wall-to-wall carpeting.

  • Made In USA
  • 10 Year Warranty
  • Motor – 7.2″ 2 Stage, Tangential By-Pass

Both brands are well-known in the vacuum industry for their quality and innovation. The bag used is the latest in the bag filtration technology for the removal of tiny, lung-damaging particles (including dust mite, feces, and pollen) that are released back into the air. Coupled with this unit’s strong Lamb Ametek 7.2″ 2 Stage, Tangential By-Pass motor, this unit stands out as superior in performance and filtration.

3) Imperium Pink – Favorite Bagless Unit

Imperium PINKThe Imperium Pink is named “Pink” because it was originally designed to support cancer research with its sales.

  • Features a permanent filter – The inverted bag filter shakes itself clean with each use, thanks to a weighted drop, so it never needs to be maintenance.
  • High-Tech design – Surf-Tex™ filter resists bacteria, mold, and mildew growth. This material can also capture particles as small as .3 microns and has a dust retention of 97% efficiency.
  • Bagless with options – The 6.25-gallon dirt canister can be fitted with plastic liners if emptying loose debris in the canister is unwanted.

  • Motor – 5.7″ ultra, 2 stage, flow thru
  • Air Watts – 740
  • Bagless Unit With Permanent Self-Clean Filter – with option for a dirt can liner

The Imperium Pink is appropriate for homes as large as 6,000 square feet. The flexibility to choose between a bagless dirt canister or a plastic liner makes these units right for just about any homeowner. A patented Air Channel allows a plastic can liner to be used inside the dirt canister making emptying the can less hassle and less mess. With the Air Channel, you eliminate clouds of dust billowing up in your face when you empty the dirt can.

5) Imperium CV260 – Best Value

0090846_imperium-cv260-central-vacuum-power-unitFor the best system on a budget, the CV260 is a real bargain!

  • Affordable – The CV260 is almost $200 less than the next model up, so it’s incredibly affordable, even for homeowners on a budget.
  • Compact – Because the CV260 measures only 23″H x 13″D, the installation footprint is very compact. This makes the unit ideal for apartments, condos, cabins, vacation homes, or RV’s.
  • Pop of color – Although it doesn’t affect the performance, there’s nothing wrong with adding a fun shade of blue to your utility room or basement. We just love the cheery color on the CV260!
  • Home square footage – Under 2,750 sq ft
  • Made In USA
  • Warranty – 3 Year
  • Motor – 5.1″
  • Air Watts – 507

It’s understandable to buy on a budget and purchasing a central vacuum system is no different! So if you’re shopping for a smaller home or office and looking to simply score the best deal, the Imperium CV260 is a really fantastic power unit without the bells and whistles that can drive up the cost.

Imperium CV7700 Power Unit

"I wish I had just called you guys first!"

Today’s consumers are smarter than ever. They bargain hunt, read reviews, compare multiple retailers, and only then do they make a purchase. And it’s a great thing to see people being so wise with their spending. The only hiccup is when they need help.

All the personal research in the world can’t compare to a twenty minute phone call with an expert. And all the discounts and promotions you can find won’t help when it comes time to ask a question. We hear from customers DAILY who purchased a product from a faceless online retailer and now can’t get the necessary service for that item. Retailers like Amazon are great for certain items – paper towels, diapers, books. But think twice before making a purchase that could potentially require repairs or technical support. You won’t be getting it from them.

So what’s the alternative? You want the ease of buying online but the confidence of a respected retailer. Wha-bam! Read this blog about the Imperium CV7700 and shop with confidence!

0057283_imperium-cv7700-power-unitThe Imperium CV7700 Power Unit is a powerhouse cleaner. It boasts one of the largest motors available while still a 120 Volt machine. What that means is, you can have a machine powerful enough for a commercial setting in your residential installation.

Hit Me With The Highlights:

  • Powerful enough for up to 10,000 square feet
  • Premier 7.2″ Tangential By-Pass Motor
  • True Cyclonic – no bags to change
  • Large, 38 quart dirt canister
  • 10 Year warranty
  • Made in America
  • Incredibly quiet at only 60 decibels
  • Vented to the exterior for unmatched air quality

Suction Stats:

  • Airflow – 121 CFM
  • Amps – 13.5
  • Air Watts – 631
  • Water Lift – 142″

A Green Clean

Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you’re aware that appliances are going the way of “green.” Manufacturers and consumers are doing what they can to make and purchase environmentally friendly products. And why not? It’s good for the Earth AND it almost always saves you money! The Imperium CV7700 is a perfect example.

  • Repairable long-life motors – The motor in the CV7700 is designed to be repairable and replaceable. By creating special interrupters that will shut-down the motor before it’s officially kaput, you’re able to simply replace the necessary parts instead of overheating or damaging the machine. An Imperium power unit will likely outlast every other appliance in your home.
  • Off means Off – The power unit itself features an “On/Off” switch that completely powers-down the appliance. When turned off, the appliance is using zero residual energy (unlike other appliances.) While you may not use it throughout day, it’s a great solution for over night, while you’re out of town, or spans of time when you won’t be vacuuming.
  • IAQ, Green Label – The Imperium CV7700 was awarded the Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI) Green Label for indoor air quality. The honor was bestowed due to the unit’s exhaust system. The vent on the CV7700 is installed to the exterior of your home, so any particles or allergens that are too small for the dirt canister are removed completely – not breathed in.
  • Green Built – Proudly made in the USA, the Imperium CV7700 is manufactured by Lindsay Mfg. in a modern plant which uses products and processes that retain and recycle lubricants, minimizes or eliminates most volatile organic compounds and produces few carbon emissions in the production of Imperium Central Vacuum Systems.
  • Recyclable – The 100% steel canister on the CV7700 is completely recyclable with no irreclaimable plastic body parts to fill landfills and dumps.
  • Recycled and Recyclable Packaging – Even the shipping box and internal packing material are completely recyclable. Central Vacuum Stores uses zero styrofoam or plastic in the shipping containers of the CV7700. The box and internal support pieces are made of at least 20% recycled materials.

When You Buy From The Best

The quote at the top of the page was from a real customer and it certainly wasn’t the first time we had heard it. When you buy a central vacuum system from, you’re not just getting an easy shopping experience. You’re getting actual experience. Like the 60+ years we’ve been in business!

Got an issue when it comes time to install it? We’ll put you on the phone with one of our professional installers to walk you through it!

Need a repair part but don’t know where to begin? We carry any and every part necessary for the Imperium CV7700 and we offer extra fast shipping!

Looking for additional tools or attachments to complement your new unit? Our sales associates will ask all the right questions and cover every base to make sure you get the exact products your home needs. Nothing more, nothing less.

Consider the Imperium CV7700 for your central vacuum installation. And if you need help deciding or simply want a professional opinion, we suggest you don’t waste your time and simply call us first. 1-800-221-8227.

User Review: Miele Cat & Dog Complete C3 Vacuum

Last week’s blog regarding stinky vacuums must have really hit a nerve. We sure saw a lot of traffic to the post and, as a result, thought a follow-up article was due. One of the points that seemed to resonate was the issue of pets. What can be done, if anything, to combat the truly offensive vacuum odors that are unavoidable in homes with pets?

Is there a solution to this common vacuum vexation?

We turned our attention to the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog.

Vacuums and pets have a long history of contention. I’ve never known a pet that doesn’t run from fear every time the vacuum is even pulled out of the closet. But it’s not only one-sided. Many vacuum cleaners struggle to properly meet the needs of pet homes. Miele understood this and designed a vacuum from the ground-up specifically for pets.

The Miele Cat & Dog Complete C3 has several key features that make it so apt to cleaning a pet friendly home.

1. Odor Control

Right off the bat, Miele addresses the issue at hand: stinky vacuums.

0086028_miele-cat-and-dog-complete-c3-vacuumPet odors are so strong in cleaners because the fur and dander you vacuum seep into the interior of unit over time. You can change the bag and filter often, but the tiny particles that escape to the inside of the vacuum cleaner will eventually start to smell. The result: every time you turn on your cleaner, the exhausted air that is blown back into the room smells like wet dog.0085521_miele-sf-aa50-active-airclean-charcoal-filter

To combat this, Miele invented their ActiveAir Charcoal Filter. The filter is designed using Activated Charcoal which absorbs and eliminates odors within its molecular make-up. Charcoal has long been known to be an odor neutralizer, but Miele was smart enough to infuse it into their vacuum design. The ActiveAir Charcoal Filter is included with the Cat & Dog Complete C3.

An additional odor-control aspect on the Cat & Dog is Miele’s patented Sealed System. Exclusive to Miele, the 12-Stage Sealed Construction ensures the finest particles captured within the vacuum canister stay there. Each individual compartment and the system as a whole are sealed with one continuous, durable rubber gasket, so particulate matter is trapped.

2. Pet Focused Tools & Accessories

What’s the use of odor control technology if your vacuum isn’t properly cleaning your home? The Miele Cat & Dog Complete C3 is packaged with the exact tools and accessories a pet-friendly home requires.

    • Electro Plus Electrobrush SEB228For the deep cleaning of carpets and rugs. The electric powerhead offers more suction than a turbo-styled carpet tool found on lesser models. Fur, dander, and allergens that sink to the bottom of your carpet fibers are suctioned away for a professional-grade clean.
    • Parquet Twister Floor Tool SBB300-3 For the easy cleaning of hard surface flooring. The gentle bristles won’t scratch hard woods or marble but add the exact amount of texture needed to release stuck-on bits or dirt. The swivel neck on the tool allows you to navigate around furniture legs, corners, and tight spaces. Dirt can’t hide!
    • Handheld Turbo Brush STB101For removing fur from sofas and other upholstered furniture. The STB101 is only included with the Cat & Dog model. The powerful tool is small but offers more suction power than the standard upholstery attachment so you’ll be able to remove every hair from furniture, pet pillows, bedding, and more!
    • Natural Bristle Dusting Brush
    • Upholstery Nozzle
    • Crevice tool

3. Sensitive To The Skittish

Many dogs and cats fear vacuums, in large part, because they’re loud. So Miele’s Cat & Dog is designed to be exceptionally quiet. Original Miele’s already featured quiet motors, but the Cat & Dog has a new casing that has earned the name “silence motor.” It’s one of the quietest vacuums you’ll ever use and Fido will thank you!

0082509_miele-cat-and-dog-complete-c3-vacuumAnother feature that allows the Cat & Dog to be exceptionally quiet are the smooth running castor wheels that are mounted on steel axles. The greater flexibility and orientation combined with stability and quality construction means you can navigate your home easily and without the racket of cheaply designed wheels. And if you do happen to ding a few furniture legs around the house, the Cat & Dog’s bumper strip will keep the vacuum and the piece protected and limit the noise.

4. Suck The Hair Off… Whatever

You’ve heard it claimed that a vacuum is powerful enough to suck the hair off a cat, but what people actually need is a way to suck the hair off of everything else! From delicate draperies, to dense wall-to-wall carpeting, the Cat & Dog Complete C3 has a suction setting that’s appropriate.

0086000_miele-cat-and-dog-complete-c3-vacuumRanging between 300 watts and 1200 watts, the six power settings on the Cat & Dog can be changed by a tap of the foot. The simple + and – buttons allow you to alternate between power levels without having to stop in the midst of your task. Go from floor, to sofa, to curtain panels all without having to miss a beat.

Also operational with the tap of your foot are the automatic cord rewind and the On/Off power button. The Cat & Dog also features a convenient On/Off switch on the vacuum handle.

5. A Fantastic Vacuum To Boot

Shown in rear “Park”

Obviously, the Cat & Dog is geared towards pet owners and includes all the above pet-centered features. But that doesn’t mean it can’t stand alone as an awesome vacuum.

Take, for example, the Cat & Dog’s “Park” system. The wand and floor attachment are designed to slide into the canister at the rear or sides of the machine. This allows for compact storage but is also a real convenience when taking a quick break. Need to let Fluffy outside? Just put the wand in Park and come back when you’re ready.

Additional Features:

On-Board tool storage
  • Impressive 36 ft operating radius with an automatic one-touch cord rewind
  • Ergonomic carrying handle
  • Lightweight skeleton construction
  • Telescoping wand for extra reach
  • Safety shut-off on overheating
  • On-board tool storage so your accessories are easily at hand
  • Patented automatic self-sealing bag collar enables the dust flap opening to close automatically when the compartment lid is opened so you don’t breath in what’s inside

    Self-Sealing dirt bag
  • On/Off button on the handle allows you to quickly power down for pauses
  • Gentle start motor conserves energy and adds life to your motor by gradually increasing suction power to the desired level
  • Anti-Static discharge handle utilizes a metal thread in the handle to prevent the discharge of static electricity
  • Parking system on canister designed to place the vacuum wand in position for storage or breaks

A Memorial Day In Memoriam

iStock_000008493997XSmallLike many retailers, Central Vacuum Stores celebrates Memorial Day each year with big discounts and specials. We highlight our American-made products as a nod to the holiday, write articles celebrating the store’s personal military heroes, and treat our employees to a well deserved day off to spend some quality time with family. As a Veteran owned company, the day holds a special meaning and we like to honor to those who gave their all.

But this year, we felt led to do more than just “honor.” We felt led to actually act.

WestonLeeCropThe Ambrose family’s youngest son, Micah, is an officer in the US Army and attended a prestigious military college in Georgia with his wife, Lindsay. Just last month, one of their former classmates was killed while serving in Iraq after stepping on an IED during a patrol outside Mosul. Weston Lee, a 1st Lieutenant assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 2nd BCT, 82nd Airborne Division, was just 25 years old.

This holiday was commissioned to represent the “ultimate sacrifice.” It’s more than a beautiful sentiment – it’s an opportunity to show your appreciation through action. And so, Roger and Renee Ambrose decided that Central Vacuum Stores would celebrate this year’s Memorial Day a little differently and honor 1LT Weston Lee specifically.

A crowd-sourced, fundraiser is currently underway to establish a scholarship in the name of 1LT Weston Lee by his fraternity at the University of North Georgia. Sigma Alpha Epsilon is collecting donations to reach a $100,000 goal “in hopes of rewarding young men who live Weston’s legacy of dedication and service.” They have specified that any additional funds over the amount will be gifted to 1LT Weston Lee’s family to offset any expenses surrounding his burial and loss. We hope you feel led to support the legacy of Weston Lee by clicking on the link below to make your donation.

Smelly Miele Vacuum – What Can Be Done?

Before we had children of our own, my husband and I volunteered in our church nursery. Being young and naive, we took the helm of the 2-year old class with ideas of cute crafts and lots of laughs. Obviously, that was foolish. When you’re thrown into the trenches with fifteen toddlers screaming for their mommies, it’s simply a matter of survival. And so, the finger-painting projects were replaced with something incredibly more powerful; the one thing that gave us an upper hand over even the unruliest of anklebiter; the animal cookie.

When that snack cart made its way to our room each Sunday, we found our salvation, all right. It turns out you can get a tot to do almost anything with the lure of those sugar-filled, playfully shaped, wheat crackers. And so we fed them, possibly to the chagrin of their parents, and we continued to feed them until that blessed stroke of the clock that released their mommy from service. The benefit: a manageable, happy classroom experience. The drawback: hundreds of crushed and crusted cookie bits that had to be vacuumed up from the carpeting. And that leads me to today’s topic: stinky vacuums.

Why Do Vacuums Smell?

Miele vacuum hepa filterThe air that is suctioned in as you vacuum carries with it the dust, dirt, hair, and fur from your surfaces. Larger items are captured in the dirt bag and smaller items are captured by the filter – until they’re eventual removed. But the absolute smallest particles can leak through and, ultimately, settle within the unit itself. These tiny bits begin to build over time and will eventually start to smell. When you turn on your vacuum for an errand, that stink will leak into your home through the vacuum’s exhaust.

Essentially, all vacuums smell. Even if you change your bag and filter regularly, a vacuum that has been in use for a few years will begin to stink. Some smell more than others – especially when pets are involved. The vacuumed fur and dander can grow to be quite unbearable. Every time you power on your vacuum the whole house smells like a wet dog. Yuck.

But Aren’t Miele Vacuums The Best?

miele_group_for_heroYes, your Miele is a superior vacuum cleaner, however, that doesn’t mean it’s immune to odors. Miele vacuums feature some of the most prestigious filtration systems available. They exceed the quality of commonly-found cleaners by leaps and bounds. But the fact remains, if you’re vacuuming up waste in your home, it will eventually take a stinky toll on any appliance. In other words, if your Miele is stinky – just imagine how gross a cheap vacuum must smell!

Another key difference between your Miele and someone else’s big-box store vacuum is that you actually have high-quality options to correct the issue…

How Can I Refresh My Stinky Miele?

Miele vacuum cleaners feature a dirt bag and an exhaust filter. Both of these items are designed to be changed regularly, depending on use. Miele offers an array of bags and filters to suit different needs. To combat odors, Miele introduced their line of Active AirClean Charcoal filters.

0085993_miele-sf-aa50-active-airclean-charcoal-filter.jpegCharcoal is widely known for its odor absorption. Unlike a scented solution, charcoal doesn’t just cover up a smell. It actually absorbs odors and stores them within its molecular make-up. The brains at Miele understood this makes for an ideal and natural filtration method. And so, they incorporated active charcoal into their already stellar AirClean filter line and created the Active AirClean Charcoal Filters.

But What About HEPA?

For many Miele owners, one of the key aspects they loved about Miele vacuums was their exceptional HEPA bags and filters. In fact, if you battle asthma, allergies, or other respiratory issues, then a HEPA filter is a must. Unfortunately, Miele’s HEPA filters do not include active charcoal. So it may feel like you have to choose between your health and a stinky vacuum.

Not so!

0080110_rustys-cure-vacuum-odor-eliminator.pngIf you require the superior filtration of the HEPA system, there is still a solution to treat the odors in your vacuum. In fact, Rusty’s Cure was developed for that very reason.

Rusty’s Cure is a patent pending solution available only at The idea came from Central Vacuum Stores’ owner and novice inventor, Roger Ambrose. After a beloved family pet, Rusty, passed away, he was surprised to discover that the lingering odor in his dirt canister didn’t pass with him. No matter how often he changed the receptacle, the vacuum continued to smell like wet dog with every use.

0088337_rustys-cure-vacuum-odor-eliminatorAnd so, Roger sought out a solution using odor-eliminating activated charcoal directly within a vacuum dirtbag or dirt canister. He came up with Rusty’s Cure: small granules of pure activated charcoal infused with Lavender, Rosemary, and Lemongrass Essential Oils.

Simply vacuum up a handful of these granules into your Miele dirt bag and let them do their powerful work! The charcoal and essential oils will absorb, eliminate, and fight odors from the inside. And, best of all, you can still use your HEPA filter that is so key to the respiratory health of you and your family.

Whether you opt for a new ActiveAir Charcoal Filter or a canister of Rusty’s Cure, you do not have to accept a stinky Miele. Your Miele is a quality vacuum cleaner and a real investment. Keep it happy and healthy by eliminating odors and smells with the natural results of charcoal.

Supporting Our Families – A Central Vacuum Stores Priority

When Life Hands You Life

Faith & Claire – granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Central Vacuum Stores’ founder, Chris Ambrose.

Over the years, we’ve been very choosy in whom we employ. It’s more than filling a vacancy – we value qualities like integrity, perseverance, kindness, and loyalty. So it’s no wonder once we find a team member we love, we aim to keep them. Inevitably life happens and, as a small business, you either roll with the changes or compromise on your priorities. We opt for the former.

Like Walking A Tightrope

_K3A0850There’s a lot of conversation these days about the best way to balance work and family. Unfortunately, we see most of the talk happening over the dinner table and not around the conference table. Corporations tend to think it’s up to the employee to figure things out at home – when a little effort on their part could bring about a solution for both parties.

Since opening our doors in 1948, Central Vacuum Stores has been family centered. Literally. Chris and Sally Ambrose built their life around the store, raising their children and a business simultaneously. When their oldest son, Roger, took over, he and his wife grew their kids alongside the store and website, and in the process, they made it a priority to support their employees in the same way.

Work With Moms

With modern technology, there’s little our support and web associates can’t do from home.

Moms are often dealt a tough hand – being asked to do it all. So it’s no surprise the fastest route to support a family is to support a mom. At Central Vacuum Stores, we’ve made a habit of hiring and aiding mothers, collaborating to find the best solution to balance work and kids, and sticking with them through the ups and downs of life.

It doesn’t take much to see a big impact – a little flexibility, an investment in some technology, and a commitment to cultivating a healthy employer/employee relationship. The result? A team of employees who are champions at multitasking, able to work odd hours, and loyal beyond measure. It’s the definition of a “win/win.”

In honor of Mother’s Day, we’ll be highlighting some of our incredible working moms and thanking them for all they do, both in the office and at home.

Renee Ambrose

Ambrose Family
Roger and Renee Ambrose photographed with their five children

When Renee married Roger Ambrose, she was a young girl working at Central Vacuum Stores while taking college courses. When their first child came along, Renee was able to work at home assisting the business while also investing time in her family. Things grew a little busier as the Ambroses went on to add five more children, whom Renee chose to homeschool. All the while, she continued to work as her time allowed.

When the two youngest boys became teens, Renee decided it was time to finish her own education. She got a degree in E-Business to help build Central Vacuum Stores’ internet presence (an incredibly visionary decision) and dove head-on into the management and growth of the store.

“Roger and I are pretty passionate about moms being available for their kids, even if they are working. So supporting our mom employees who have kids at home is just a natural extension of our own values..” – Renee

Dawn Ambrose Long

The Ambrose’s oldest daughter grew up working in the store helping customers, but it wasn’t long before she was married with four children of her own. Dawn chose to homeschool her brood and took the necessary time to step back from her career and focus on her family. All the while, she still assisted the store and, eventually, made her way back to a part-time employee as her children grew. The flexibility allowed her to stay up-to-date with the world of business and also raise four fabulous kids, the oldest of whom just left for the US Army.

The Ambrose’s youngest daughter also worked in the store as a teen and throughout college. After receiving a degree in Engineering and spending time working with a development firm, she found her way back to the family business. When her two children came along, it was time to reassess how she was going to manage her work and family.

Now Faith mostly works from home while juggling her toddler, four-year-old, and laptop. It takes a lot of nights and weekends to meet her duties, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Maris Lee

Maris and the girls.JPG

“I wanted to work part time from home so I would still be available for the girls. Renee hired me when my youngest daughter, Maddy, started kindergarten. That was 13 years ago. My job with Central Vacuum has given me so much flexibility- I was able to drive carpool, attend field trips and volunteer at their schools throughout the years. Now Megan has graduated from college and Maddy just finished her freshman year. I have greatly appreciated how my job has fit into my life not vice-versa.” -Maris

Kim Handelsman

IMG_8389Kim began her employment with Central Vacuum Stores as a single gal in the early 1990’s. Her time here was sporadic, as she was also juggling years away on the missionary field in Japan. By the early 2000’s, Kim was juggling new responsibilities – that of wife and mother.

She found her way back to Central Vac where the flexibility of working from home allowed her to raise her small children. When Kim chose to homeschool her kids, she pushed the pause button on her career and brought their education to the forefront. Sure enough, those kids turned into teenagers and are (just slightly) less demanding. Last year, Kim decided she was ready to get back into the workforce and the Ambroses were thrilled to welcome her, proving that flexible employers make for loyal employees.

Bonnie Clark-Enguita

_K3A0883 (1)When Bonnie first came on with Central Vacuum Stores she was kid-free and known for her early-morning hours in the office. Just a short year later, her first son was born and she and Renee had to talk about how to manage her new responsibilities. With the set-up of a laptop and a solid internet connection, there wasn’t much she couldn’t accomplish at home. The next year, when her daughter was born, Bonnie was moved to part-time hours to better balance two babies and her work. Through it all, a little flexibility from both parties has led to a pretty seamless transition from “ever-ready employee” to “working mom of two.”

Mary Anderson

Mary has worked for Central Vacuum for 12 years and her degree in engineering makes her one of our go-to’s for technical support. As the years developed, Mary and her husband sought to spend more time with their family and sweet grandson up north and decided to split their year between Florida and New York. The Ambroses agreed that time was just too precious and set Mary up with a laptop and some basic tech that would allow her to work from anywhere.

Now Mary doesn’t miss a thing, be it work related or family related. She is able to answer customer inquiries and provide sales and technical support while still soaking up time as a grandparent. We sure miss her around the office for the months she’s gone, but we love seeing the joy she comes home with after time well spent with loved ones.

Pam Hendry

IMG_1007Pam worked at Central Vacuum Stores for several years before her first grandchild arrived. Then came another…and another…and before she knew it, her daughter was a busy mom of 3 under five. Pam realized now was the time to step back from work and step deeper into the role of grandma. When she approached Renee and Roger about potentially going part-time so she could help out more with her grandkids, it was met with their full support. Good thing, too, because Pam’s son just welcomed a daughter, making her a grandma of 4!

Review: Miele Compact C1 Turbo Team

Effective this month, Miele is discontinuing their current line of C1 and C2 canister vacuums. This means that the Olympus, Capri, Delphi, Titan, Quartz, Onyx, and Topaz are no longer being manufactured. In their place, Miele is simplifying the series with three, brand new cleaners. The base model is the Compact C1 Pure Suction (which includes a combo floor tool) and the top model is the Compact C2 Electro+ (which includes an electric carpet tool and a hard floor brush.) Their new median model is the Compact C1 Turbo Team. Let’s review and compare the Turbo Team here.

** This is a good time to note that the Complete C3 Series remains the same. The Complete Series contains the Cat & Dog, Calima, Kona, Alize, Marin, and Brilliant. These are Miele’s better vacuum cleaners as they feature higher quality filtration, more intuitive features, and elite floor tools. To shop the Complete C3 line of cleaners, VISIT HERE. **

Turbo Team FAQs:

Who’s it for?

Homes with mostly hard flooring and some low-pile area rugs or carpets.

What’s the price?

The Turbo Team is one of the most affordable Miele cleaners at $399.

What’s it come with?

  • STB205-3 – Turbo Powerbrush
  • SBBParquet-3 – Parquet Floor Tool
  • Non-Electric Hose
  • Lightweight Telescopic wand
  • Natural Bristle Dusting Brush, Upholstery Nozzle, and Crevice tool
  • VarioClip (which attaches the tools to the hose)
  • A 3.7 quart Type FJM AirClean dustbag
  • 1 AirClean Filter
  • 1 Pre-Motor filter.
Compact C1 Turbo Team

The Compact C1 Turbo Team gets its name from the included floor tool. The Turbo Team comes with the STB-205 3 Turbo Brush. The inclusion of this tool and the fact that it does not offer electric powerhead capability make the Turbo Team a great option for homes with low-pile area rugs and carpets. However, if your home features dense, thick, or high-pile carpeting, the turbo style tool included here will not effectively clean your rugs.

So what does “Turbo style powerhead” mean exactly?

A turbo style powerhead, like the one included with the Compact C1 Turbo Team, utilizes the suction from the vacuum cleaner to rotate the beater bar. The beater bar then agitates the carpet fibers and releases dirt and debris caught within.

This kind of suction-powered (or turbo) tool is more than enough to clean low pile or “Berber” rugs and carpets as these don’t require a powerful brush (because they’re not very thick and dirt can’t easily hide.) However, for dense or high-pile carpeting, a turbo brush just doesn’t have the power to properly clean deep into the fibers. The better option is to choose a vacuum featuring an electric powerhead – take a look at the Electro+ or Kona.

The Miele Compact C1 Turbo Team features an AirClean Filter, 3.7 quart Type FJM AirClean dustbag with flap for dust-free removal, and a pre-motor filter. Combined with Miele’s patented 12-stage AirClean Sealed System, the Turbo Team is exceptionally good at capturing even microscopic dirt and debris. Models within the Complete C3 Series will feature even better filtration with options for HEPA or charcoal. But the Turbo Team is still far superior to anything on the shelves of your local big-box store.

Also on the Turbo Team is a rotary dial that allows you to choose between the six suction levels. The Turbo Team ranges between 300 and 1200 watts of power so you can deep clean your rugs or gently dust your draperies. Another stellar feature is the automatic cord rewind with can be initiated with just the tab of your foot. With the cord fully extended, you have a 29.5-foot operating radius.

For an overall review, we’re giving the Miele Turbo Team Compact C1 7/10 stars. The high ranking is due mostly to the exceptional Miele filtration system. You’re just not going to find a better vacuum than a Miele so any of their cleaners will rank high. Additionally, the Turbo Team is less expensive than many other Miele models, so you’re getting that superior filtration and quality without a ding to your budget. We’re really excited about that.

The Turbo Team isn’t earning 10 stars because it’s not an electric unit, meaning it wouldn’t be sufficient for homes with carpeting outside of a few rugs. Thankfully, for many homeowners, carpeting isn’t a priority and, thus, the Turbo Team is a perfect cleaner at a really affordable price.

Review: Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction

Miele’s brand new vacuum models hit the market this week and we’re testing them out one-by-one. Today, we’re taking a close look at the Compact C1 Pure Suction. It’s the most affordable of the new models. The Pure Suction and the new Compact C1 Turbo Team take the place of all the models formerly encompassed in the “Classic C1” Series – the Titan, Olympus, Capri, and Delphi. These previous models are now discontinued.

Compact C1 Pure Suction

The Pure Suction is gaining attention thanks to its affordability. It’s Miele’s current, least expensive model. What you get is the high-quality filtration you expect from a Miele. Won’t you don’t get are the high-end features and accessories found on the better models.

Included with the Pure Suction is Miele’s SBD285-3 Classic Combo Floor Tool. Now, it’s true that this is one of Miele’s least expensive floor attachments, however, that’s not to say it isn’t exactly what you need.20000122997-000-00_20000122997.jpg

The SBD285-3 Classic Combo is a combination hard-floor/area rug floor tool. It is awesome for homes with tile, hardwood, laminate, or terrazzo. As these homes typically have low-pile area rugs, door mats, etc, it’s designed to be one tool that will effectively vacuum all of the above. If your home has any wall-to-wall carpeting or even area rugs that are dense or high-pile, this is not an ideal option. Homes with any true carpeting should look at Miele’s cleaners with electric powerheads (we’d suggest the Compact C2 Electro or the Complete C3 Kona.)

What many folks will love about the Pure Suction is the affordability. This is Miele’s lowest priced model. We consider it the first step towards your future as a life-long Miele owner. The Pure Suction keeps costs down by avoiding some of the bells & whistles and elite features found on the better models.

For example, the Pure Suction has a rotary dial which allows you to turn to the appropriate suction level. On more expensive models, the settings are foot operated or even automatic. Additionally, the Pure Suction comes with Miele’s AirClean Filter, not their HEPA Filter that some models have. It also features a smaller dirt bag (3.7 quarts) while better models have a larger bag (4.76 quarts.)

What the Compact C1 Pure Suction does offer is Miele’s 12-Stage AirClean Sealed System – and that is incredibly important. Other vacuums sold at your local big-box store may have similar features; they may offer a HEPA filter or nice attachments. But NO brand has Miele’s sealed system. This is the key element in the incredibly high-quality air filtration that comes with owning a Miele. The dirt and dust, even the tiniest particles, stay captured within the vacuum unit. Not to be leaked back into your home like with lesser brands.

To summarize, the Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction is a nice vacuum. We’re giving it 7/10 stars. It ranks so high because it’s incredibly inexpensive but also features Miele’s patented, unmatched filtration. The Pure Suction will be a really great option for homes with hard flooring and homeowners with a budget. Of course, it’s lacking some of the better features that you’ll get with more expensive models. So there’s a give-and-take. But we expect this unit is going to be very well received by cost-conscious shoppers.
