The Miele Red Star was one of Miele’s most popular canister vacuum cleaners. It’s long been discontinued, but customers continue to sing its praises year after year. It’s no wonder, then, that we have so many customers returning for their next Miele cleaner.
If your Red Star has served you well but you’re looking to upgrade to a new Miele, we’ve got some great suggestions. The Red Star was designed to suit all floor types and came with an electric power brush to deep clean carpeting. It featured a rotary dial to change the suction as you navigated your home and a HEPA filter for high air quality.
Your Red Star was a great vacuum but it’s time for a newer model. The Miele family has changed since you last shopped, so we’ll help you navigate.
So What Current Miele Is Like My Red Star?
The Miele Topaz Compact C2 is most comparable to your Red Star.
It features an electric power brush for carpeting, like your Red Star, and also a hard floor brush. The rotary dial to control suction will be nearly identical to your Red Star and it also includes the same attachments (a Natural Bristle Dusting Brush, Upholstery Nozzle, and Crevice Tool.)
The Topaz is part of Miele’s Compact C2 Series. It’s the middle ground in Miele’s canister line, not the most expensive and not the least.
But the Topaz also has some new and improved features. The patented silence insulation makes Mieles newer vacuums even quieter than ever. It offers a 33-foot operating radius and an automatic cord rewind. Miele’s patented Original Sealed System takes HEPA certification one step further. Each individual compartment and the system as a whole are sealed with one continuous, durable rubber gasket, so particulate matter is trapped in Miele’s disposable AirClean filtering dustbag. The Topaz comes standard with the AirClean filter with an optional upgrade to either the Active AirClean or HEPA AirClean filters for maximum filtration.

Effective April 2017, Miele has decommissioned the Topaz model canister. It has been replaced by the NEW Electro+ Compact C2. To learn more about the Electro+, read our blog review: Review: Miele Compact C2 Electro+. Or visit the product page on CentralVacuumStores.com.
But What If I’m Looking For An Upgrade?
New Mieles have a lot of bells & whistles to offer. There may be a better vacuum for you out there among Miele’s Complete C3 line of cleaners.
The Kona also features foot operated controls, not a rotary dial like the Topaz and Red Star. This makes it much easier to change between suction levels. Additionally, the attachments on the Kona are conveniently stored within the canister, under the hood. (The Topaz only stores the tools on a vario clip that attaches to the hose.) Do I Still Want A Miele?
Since purchasing your Red Star, you’ve probably heard a lot of things about other vacuum brands. They make a lot of promises regarding suction and lifespan. But don’t let that confuse you. Miele vacuum cleaners remain the leading vacuum brand and their filtration and exhausted air quality is unmatched. Don’t get caught up in shiny packaging. Miele is the brand you want in your home!
