New Year = New Vacuum
You may or may not be the type of person who makes New Year’s resolutions. For some, New Year’s is the extra motivation they need to make a change. For others, it’s just another day. Whatever the case, January 1st has that undeniable feeling of fresh starts and new beginnings and we’d like to kick off the year with a look ahead. 2016 is officially gone. Here’s a glimpse at the best Miele vacuum cleaners in 2017.
The Absolute Best Without Question
…trust us in advance when we say it has no equal.
If you came to this blog and simply want to hear about the best Miele available, you’re in luck. You won’t even need to read past this paragraph. The absolute leading Miele vacuum in 2017 is the Miele Brilliant Complete C3. We’ll cover what makes this model so incredible, but trust us in advance when we say it has no equal.
The Miele Brilliant is part of Miele’s Complete C3 line of canister vacuums. These models will feature the highest level of filtration, superior bags and filters, and additional bells & whistles that are equally fabulous. And the Brilliant, simply put, has all of it.
Inside the Brilliant is Miele’s most powerful motor: the 1200-watt, extra quiet, Vortex Motor System. Combined with the included 4.76-quart capacity, G/N AirClean FilterBag and Active HEPA Filter, the Brilliant is incredibly powerful, incredibly quiet, and incredibly good at capturing every particle.
The Brilliant is suitable for any home or office because it includes a floor tool for every type of flooring.
- Electro Premium Electrobrush – for dense carpeting
- SBD285-3 All TeQ Combo Tool – for smooth/low-pile rugs
- XL 16-inch Wide Parquet Twister Brush – for hard flooring
No other Miele model comes with three floor tools! But you’ll also get specialty accessories like the Extended Crevice Tool (think about reaching underneath your refrigerator,) Natural Bristle Dusting Brush (think about delicately doing all your dusting with your vacuum,) and the Upholstery Nozzle (think about removing pet hair from all your chairs & sofas.) Each can be attached to the Stainless Steel Telescopic Wand for exceptional reach and are stored under the hood of the canister for fast access.
Top Miele Functions:
- Exclusive 12-Stage AirClean Sealed System to keep the dirt inside the vacuum
- Impressive 36 ft operating radius with an automatic one-touch cord rewind
- Ergonomic carrying handle
- Automatic setting to change suction levels based on flooring type
- Lightweight skeleton construction
- Automatic standby switch in rear park
- Filter change indicator
- Safety shut-off on overheating
- Silence insulation
- On-Board tool storage
Over The Top Brilliant Features:
- LED underbody lights
- Velvet bumper strip
- Illuminated side park system
- Deluxe handle grip with settings on the hose handle
- Beautiful, Bronze Pearl color with durable, scuff-proof finish
The Next Best Thing
…it’s expected that you may wonder, “What’s the second best?” The answer is easily the Miele Marin Complete C3.
The Mile Brilliant is a hard act to follow. While it has no equal, the price may be too high for some homeowners. So it’s expected that you may wonder, “What’s the second best?” The answer is easily the Miele Marin Complete C3.
The Marin is such a favored canister because it includes all the high-quality cleaning features without the “comfort” additions found on the Brilliant. This allows the Marin to be a little more affordable.
Perhaps the key qualities that make the Marin number two on the list are the electric floor tools and the highest grade filtration. The Marin comes with the SEB236 Electro Comfort electrobrush. This floor brush is a must for any home with carpeting. It features a bright light to guide your path and a powerful beater-bar to refresh your rugs. Unlike some other models, the electric brush is powered by its own motor power, not just the air from the suction. This allows for a significantly deeper clean.
And while your floor tool is digging deep into rugs and carpeting, the patented Miele Sealed System and 12-Stage Filtration keep the dirt, dander, and debris safely within the vacuum. Gone from your home for good! You only find that in a Miele! The Marin also includes the Parquet Twister floor brush for all your hard surfaces like wood or tile.
The Best On A Budget – Carpeting
…the Electro+ gives you “Miele-quality” without a lot of the high-end features that add up to dollar signs.
If your home has carpeting or dense area rugs, you really should only purchase a Miele with an electric power head. But that doesn’t mean it has to be expensive! The Miele Electro+ Compact C2 features an electric carpet tool capable of properly cleaning your rugs but is also one of the more affordable units offered.
What you’ll gain with the Electro+ is the deep cleaning your carpeting requires. Dirt and debris naturally settle into the base of carpet fibers – there’s no preventing it. So the only way to truly clean your rugs is to agitate the fibers and loosen the crumbs and dirt within them so the suction can do its work. With an electric carpet tool, like the SEB228 Electric Powerbrush on the Electro+, the motor is managing the spin on the beater bar agitator. This allows for a powerful clean. Other models will only feature a Turbo Brush. The beater bar agitator on these floor tools uses the suction of the vacuum to create a spin. It’s significantly weaker. The Electro+ also comes with the SBB Parquet-3 Hard Floor Tool to better vacuum tile, wood, or laminate flooring.
However, the Compact models do not offer some of the higher quality features found on better models. For example, changing the suction level is done by hand using a rotary dial (unlike the automatic settings sensor found on more expensive Mieles.) Additionally, the included accessories are a lesser quality and only attach to the hose using a Vario Clip (unlike the better tools and onboard storage found in elite Mieles.)
Lastly, the Electro+ comes with the HEPA AirClean Filter, 3.7 quart Type FJM AirClean dustbag, and a pre-motor filter. These filtration steps still create a level of cleanliness that is unmatched against standard, big-box vacuum cleaners. In short, if you have carpeting and are on a budget, the Electro+ Compact C2 gives you”Miele-quality” without a lot of the high-end features that add up to dollar signs.
The Best On A Budget – Hard Flooring
The gentle bristles are designed to work on any hard surface and act as both catalyst and catcher.
For homes with hard flooring, the task of choosing a vacuum is a little easier. Essentially, you don’t need a powerful, electric floor tool designed to deep clean carpet fibers (though it’s likely you have a few area rugs to consider.) What you really need is Miele’s high-quality Parquet Floor Brush to gently dislodge big or fine dirt and dust from your tile, wood, or laminate surfaces. Just like the brush found on the Miele Compact C1 Turbo Team.
The Turbo Team, like the above Electro+, is from Miele’s Compact Series of canisters. These are the most affordable models and offer less significant features and upgrades. Similar to the Electro+, you won’t get the onboard tool storage, the automatic settings, or the better filtration options like HEPA. But you may be surprised by just how accommodating and powerful the Turbo Team is!
The most important feature on the Turbo Team is the Parquet Hard Floor Brush. The gentle bristles are designed to work on any hard surface and act as both catalyst and catcher. But Miele also understands that homes with hard flooring almost always include area rugs, too. That’s why the Turbo Team also includes an STB205-3 Turbobrush which is more than adequate to clean low pile carpets and area rugs.
The Turbo Team doesn’t offer the same exceptional add-ons as found on the Complete C3 models, but your wallet may thank you for the practicality of a less expensive cleaner.
The Turbo Team comes with three accessories that can be attached to the vacuum hose using a Vario Clip and features Miele’s patented Parking System which allows the wand to be attached to the rear of the canister for steady and compact storage. It also features Miele’s AirClean Filter, 3.7 quart Type FJM AirClean dustbag, and a pre-motor filter. Though not the best filtration system Miele offers, the Compact C1 Turbo Team still exceeds the quality of any vacuum you’d find at a major retailer.
Miele’s Best Mid-Range Canister
…if you’re looking to spend a practical amount for a high-quality cleaner but don’t want to go overboard – the Calima is a great fit…
If you’re looking for the middle ground between expensive/fully featured and more affordable/lesser quality, the Miele Calima Complete C3 is just that vacuum. You can’t find a better Miele for the price.
In the world of Miele canisters, there are two levels of models. The Compact is the lower level and a common and offers basic filtration and entry level features. Models within the Compact Series reflect that in price, as well. Models within the upper Series, the Complete C3, will feature exceptional features, but there is a wider range of prices due to the different powerheads included. So if you’re looking to spend a practical amount for a high-quality cleaner but don’t want to go overboard – the Calima is a great fit as it’s priced at the bottom of the Complete C3 Series.
The Calima comes with the STB205-3 Turbo Comfort turbobrush and the SBB300-3 – Parquet Twister Floor Tool. The turbobrush won’t feature powerful electric cleaning like the one found on the Brilliant or Marin, but is more affordable. The Parquet Twister features the same, gentle bristles as the one found on the Brilliant, but isn’t as wide. It does, however, offer the same on-board tool storage for the ultimate convenience.
Something unique to the Calima C3 is its size and weight. The Calima is actually larger than many of the above cleaners. As such, it features a larger dirt bag -4.76-quart capacity, G/N AirClean FilterBag. This is a nice feature for homes with more square footage as it will require fewer bag changes.
The Calima is a step up from the Electro+ and Turbo Team. It offers a 36-foot operating radius thanks to a longer cord (7 feet longer than the cheaper models.) It also includes a higher quality filter and bag. And, perhaps most popular, the Calima bag features Miele’s spring-loaded, self-sealing collar which makes the bag immediately seal closed in the event you open the hood. No more plumes of dirt spewing as you try to change the bag!
One difference from the more expensive Marin and Brilliant is the automatic suction settings. Those models will sense the type of surface being vacuumed and adjust accordingly. The Calima features foot operated controls, so you’ll have to manually tap them to change the settings. Still, the buttons are more convenient than the rotary dials found on the less expensive models (like the Electro+ and Turbo Team.)
So Which Is Right For Me?
Finding your perfect Miele is as simple as 1, 2, 3…
Narrowing your search to the right Miele vacuum cleaner for your home or office is important. Mieles are designed to live an exceptionally long life. So you can count on having it a while. May as well be sure you’re choosing the right one!
Go By Flooring –
The first step is to always take into account the type of flooring you’ll be cleaning. Homes with wall-to-wall carpeting have very different needs than homes with vintage terrazzo. Tally up the amount and type of carpeting you have, whether dense or low-pile. From there, you’ll know if you need to be shopping for a model featuring an electric carpet tool or not.
Set A Budget –
This one is obvious. Know what you can spend in advance so you don’t get carried away. We suggest you have a price range more than just a price cap. Once you narrow your selection by carpet tool or no carpet tool, you can thin the list even further by eliminating models more and less than what you want to spend. Or, simply jump to the Series with which you are comfortable.
